Hello Friends.

This summer the idea of writing was a nagging thought, a fingertip poking my shoulder, a word I swallowed before it had a chance to squeak because as much as I believe the things we actively ignore are the things we should be facing, I couldn’t find the mental organization to write a single. god. damn. word. Instead, I watered my plants. Every Monday, I watered my plants. I did my dishes, I drove to the beach, I admired Gilly, I fucking chilled. The grind of the previous year fizzled out sometime in June, and honestly, so did I.

But the cooling breeze brings a gravitational force, and the energy of an impending autumn makes me feel more grounded, more focused, more mentally awake. What felt impossible to grasp is now tethered to notebooks in lists and ink, with a promise not to perfectionist away the progress of ideas.

And Speaking of Ideas…

I’m working on a fun new project! With the goal of building community through conversations and seeking inspiration through other forms of creativity, I’m turning Snippety into a (modestly minimal just for funsies) online magazine!

I love magazines so damn much. Despite magazines of the 90s and early 00s handing girls a manual for toxic beauty standards, questionable relationship advice, and dubious sex tips (the ice cubes…), I’ve been magazine obsessed ever since Gerry bought me my first glossy copy of GIRLS’ LIFE back in 1998, offering the promise of materialistic transformation through Juice Bar Cotton Candy spray and fruit punch lips.

But as a shy and anxious kid, they also offered a portal through which to escape the Trials of Adolescence, permission to envision a version of myself that my rural town didn't foster, introductions to career paths, artists, and entrepreneurs that weren’t reflective of my community, and glamorous high contrast high saturation high in the god damn sky editorial FASHION SHOOTS BABY. Mmph, I fucking love.

Nostalgia runs extra deep when that distinct feeling of finally getting the latest issue of your favourite magazine (gimme a Twist, CosmoGIRL, Teen Vogue, NYLON, Cosmo) after devouring the previous issue in 3 hours after waiting a whole fucking month to get it in your hot lil hands is now 6 feet underground next to the sound of crinkling cellophane being ripped off your new CD once you could finally make that skin tight plastic tear. RIP.

And so! GETSNIPPETY will be launching in October featuring an incredible artist and entrepreneur whose thoughts and creations I’m so excited to share with you.

Snip Shop Updates

Endlessly looking for hair models this year as I continue my education at Freyja! I started a FB group to post opportunities for free haircuts, take a look and join if you’d like! Upcoming haircuts are mullets, bobs, pixies, and more.

Till next month, pals, get snippety and catch those cool autumnal breezes heat waves.

Your radically unchill and ever so A.D.D. friend/hairstylist/internet stranger,
Jess

I can VISCERALLY SMELL THIS.
