Hello Friends

This month I’m overthinking words to a pulp, the inverse of how it usually goes which is pulp, then paper, then words, but I’ve been struggling to turn my brain off, let go, and relax. I’m sure I’m not alone, unrest is abundant, and the past few weeks have felt intensely restless. So sending you all big hugs and the following thoughts that've managed to escape my cranium.

Last night I walked past a bar brimming with 20 year olds in a space that once was a café, now filled with kids who know where the after parties are. I thought about dancing at Korova with a stranger I’d find five years later behind the counter at Névé, sharing vodka with my old neighbor in the backroom of Vinyl on a Nuit Blanche, partying at Blizzarts on a Tuesday night in June after quitting my job. Bygone scenes that are ghosts in the night, exisiting only through disjointed memories and grainy photographs in buried facebook albums. I felt old in a cool but invisible way. Like I had a secret they'd never know.

But of course, they were in the know and I was only a stranger glancing in through the rain.

Go-Go Dancin’ at White Trash

Someone knew someone and suddenly I was biking around to sex shops on a Friday evening in Friedrichshain looking for something to wear. When I was 21 and living in a tiny village on the North Sea, there was a girl who had done some go-go dancing in London. She would smoke cigs on the picnic tables in our camp counselor common area with her blunt blond bangs and drain pipes and talk about how she used to be a go-go girl in Camdentown. There wasn’t much go-go dancing back home so I just pictured a cage while that Gordon Lightfoot song played in my head.

But here in Berlin, go-go dancing was a thing and someone knew someone so I was gonna do it at White Trash Fast Food on a Friday night in mid December. I had an ambiguous idea of what I was getting into, or at least I figured it landed somewhere on the other side of stripping and burlesque, I just didn’t know where. And I didn’t know what to wear.

I was in my complicated prude era, where I’d paused on performing burlesque and didn’t want to be lauded for my body, while simultaneously being interested in all things sex, nudity, performance. Go-go dancing was just hyping a crowd, right? Seemed safe. Seemed sexy. …But not too sexy.

READ THE REST HERE IF YA WANT! gotta keep things snippety;)

Gilly has gone to fish heaven. Despite fancy heaters, aquatic plants, and a penthouse aquarium, I did a water change that was too big and my poor little fish died. I feel awful about it. I currently have a school of neon tetras in my tank who are delightful to watch but seem to have a fungal infection, yes indeed, so I went to my fish man and he directed me to buy fish meds off of ebay because for some reason aquatic stores can’t sell them, so I did, and they arrived, and seem to be working! The adventure continues. I should have just gotten a cat.

Snip Shop Updates

We’re open on Mondays at Freyja! Come see me for a snip-n-bitch on Mondays in addition to Thursdays and Saturdays. SO THANKFUL for all the opportunies to learn to cut hair over the past 2 years, I’m fucking grateful.

Final Thoughts

GETSNIPPETY.com is looking a lil more profresh than last month, as I slowly figure out Wordpress and navigate the neverending confusions of very very basic tech lol — still a lot of tinkering to do, but next month will deliver the next conversation in my interview series! Plus there's a new section on the site which I’ll be posting to intermittently. Yay!

PS I need to know — WHO ELSE LIKES GHERKIN PICKLES?? Please tell me so I can inform the friend who’s named me Lil’ Gherkin that i’m not alone 😐

Till next month, get snippety and love your friends & pets.

Your pulp-brain pickle pal/stylist/internet stranger,
Jess
